Casey Says,

Growing up I have always had pets from cats, dogs, guinea pigs even pet mice!  I have always been an animal lover from a young age. My mother would often find me as a young child chatting away to our dogs outside or bringing home sick or injured wildlife. It was never a question whether I would end up working with animals, more or less what animal career I was going to choose.

My Younger Years

At the age of 16 I completed my first stint of volunteer work in the Asian division at Taronga Zoo Sydney. Here I gained knowledge of captive animals and the challenge of working with a range of exotic species. I then went on to volunteer at a local Veterinary practice in rural New South Wales. It was here that I would later be employed as a trainee Veterinary Nurse after completing year 12 at High School.

My volunteer work didn’t end there. Whilst studying nursing I was also volunteering my weekends in a wildlife park. I got to work up close with Koalas, Wombats, Reptiles and a few very cheeky Emus. My love for wildlife and fascination in animal health continued to grow.  A few more practical workshops at both Dubbo Western Plains Zoo and a referral Veterinary Practice later, I was then working as a fully qualified Certificate IV Veterinary Nurse.

Time to Hit the Road

In 2012, I discovered my love for travel with my first trip overseas to Europe. After arriving back in Australia, I realised how much of my own country I was yet to explore.

In 2015, I hit the road to travel across Australia. This ended up with me working on a property South of Broome for a year. I couldn’t keep myself away from a Veterinary Practice for long. I would drive a 4 hour return trip on the weekend to work a casual nursing position in laid back Broome.

After experiencing life in the ‘Top End’ I headed for Perth where I started work at a small animal practice in the city. I realised I had fallen in love with Western Australia but missed the small town lifestyle. On a search for a small coastal town, I ventured to Busselton where I live today.

Here to Stay

Since then I have started work at Vasse Vets. I bring 12 years nursing experience with a keen interest in pathology, wildlife nursing and alternate therapies.

I am enjoying my time at Vasse Vets and hope to get to know all of our furry, feathered and scaly patients individually.
